Walkthrough ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- %%%Intro%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% Treasures: FenixDown The game begins at Tycoon Castle with a young girl named Lenna talking with her father, the king of Tycoon. It seems that the power of the crystals is fading, and the king is leaving on a journey to find out the reason why. The two talk for a while, then the king climbs on his Hiryuu Dragon ('Hiryuu' is Japanese for 'flying', I believe, and it is true, the Hiryuu IS a flying dragon.) and flys off. You'll then see various scenes of Faris, a pirate; Galuf, an old man in a cave; and Princess Lenna again. Eventually, the scene will change to a forest where a man and a chocobo are resting around a campfire. Then, an extremely pixellated meteor plummets from the sky and crashed near Tycoon Castle. The man then jumps on his chocobo and runs out of the forest towards the meteor to investigate. You now have control of the man (who's name is just "?" for right now) on the world map. There are no random battles, as you're riding on a chocobo, so just head for the meteor to the east. Once you arrive there, the man will tell his chocobo, Boco, to wait at the entrance while he goes in alone. Follow the path until you come to two goblins who are holding Lenna hostage. The man surprises the goblins, and they attack him. This is an easy battle, as neither of the goblins have more than 20 HP, and they can't do more than 3 or 4 damage to you. After beating them, Lenna introduces herself to the man, who reveals that his name is Butz. (Actually, you can name the hero whatever you'd like, but Butz is his default name, so I'll refer to him by that name.) Lenna then joins you and you start to leave the meteor site, but you hear a sound coming from the meteor and go over to investigate. It's Galuf! Unfortunatly, he seems to have amnesia, and can't remember anything except his name. After talking for a while, Lenna and Galuf say they're leaving for the wind shrine, and depart. You should now do the same, but before leaving the meteorite area, walk down and right through the trees just below where you met Galuf to find a valuable FenixDown. Now leave the crater and you'll be back on the world map with your chocobo. Now, head northwest to a small valley, where you'll see Lenna and Galuf being attacked by goblins. Run through the valley, defeating the goblins along the way, and rescue your two friends. After this, there will be a scene where Butz decides to go to the Wind Shrine as well, and Lenna and Galuf join you. Unfortunatly, the meteor's shock has blocked the way leading to the village of Tule, however, it seems a new cave has been formed in the northern cliffside, so save your game, then enter. Once again, Butz will tell Boco to wait outside while he and the others go in. %%%Cliffside Cave%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% Treasures: Leather (Helmet) Upon entering the cave, walk up until Butz points out a spring. Now stop and fight some enemies to gain levels. The only things here are Steel Bats, and the crab-like Dearos, neither of which are much of a threat. Build your members up to level 3 or 4 (using the spring to heal you if necessary), then enter the upper door. Here, you'll fight Stropers, a variation of the man- eating plant, but they're not any more difficult then the other two enemies. Walk around the room, then climb the stairs where you'll see a pirate flip a switch to open a door in the cliff. After he leaves, you can do the same, but first, take the Leather helmet in the treasure chest on the left ledge. Now flip the switch, and open the cave, which leads deeper into the cave. As soon as you enter, Butz will rush through the opening in the upper wall and you'll see a ship sailing into the cove... but the wind has stopped!! How can a ship move without wind!? Hmm... most curious... (Remember, this game took place long ago, before ships used engines.) Continue through the cave to the left and enter the upper door. (Don't bother with the lit cave opening Butz ran through earlier, it leads to a mountainous dead end.) You'll now be in a pirates base, so it means that that strange ship you just saw was a pirate ship!! Lenna says that they should ask the pirates to let them borrow their ship, but since that's...probably not a really smart idea, Galuf suggests that you just STEAL the ship. Anyway, after talking, explore the base. There is another skull switch on the left side of the base, but it doesn't do anything now, so don't worry about it yet. There are also two houses here, that are both guarded by sleeping pirates, so you can't enter them. What you want to do is cross the long wooden bridge on the right leading to the ship. Once on board the ship, you can climb down the stairs if you'd like, but there's nothing down there, so just examine the ship's wheel at the far north end of the ship. You've succeeded in stealing the ship!!!...or so it seems... Ultimatly, the ship doesn't move and the crew ends up getting captured by a pirate named Faris and thrown in the brig! Before that, though, Lenna reveals to the group that she is actually the princess of Tycoon, and shows Faris a pendant. After some dialogue, the scene changes to Faris, who has the same type of pendant as Lenna... Faris has a change of heart, and decides to bring the party to the Wind Shrine after all, then joins the team. You now return to the world map, where you can now control the ship, which is actually pulled by a huge water dragon named Syldra!!! Sail out of the small channel and a pirate will stop you and ask if you want him to show you where the shrine is. If you know, say no, otherwise, say yes and he'll guide you to it. Either way, sail west to the small village of Tule first. %%%Village of Tule%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% Treasures: Tent x2, Potion x2, 150 GP, 100 GP, Ether, Leather (Shoes) x2, FenixDown x2 As soon as you enter the village, Faris and the pirates, true to their nature, rush into the pub. Faris will leave your party, but will rejoin when you leave. Talk to an old man walking around near the entrance of town, and he'll offer to take you to the beginner's hall -- accept his offer. Enter and talk to the woman at the desk. Tell her you're a beginner and she'll let you in. Talk to everyone here for tips and info on some of the various inner workings of the game, and be sure to take the items (Tent, Potion, Ether, FenixDown, and 100 GP) out of the barrels, boxes, and jars. Upstairs, there are more people with more advice for you. The treasure chest here contains a monster, but it's just one goblin, so it's easy, and after beating it, you'll receive a pair of Leather shoes that you should give to Butz. After talking to everyone here, and getting the items, talk to the lady at the front desk again to leave; now go explore the rest of the town. You can buy some leather equipment at the shops, so buy enough for everyone, and be sure to buy 3 Broad Swords at the weapon shop (if you have the money; if not, go outside and fight monsters to get enough.) There is also a magic shop in town, but since no one can use magic yet, don't waste your money here. If you'd like some treasures, There is 150 GP in a barrel to the right of the inn, and a tent and potion are in some boxes near the bridge. Get the items then cross the bridge and enter the house. Lenna will explain that this house belongs to Zokk, the man who built the waterway connecting the east and west oceans, but he doesn't seem to be home, and there's nothing of interest in his house, so just leave for now. Now, pick up a FenixDown and another pair of Leather shoes by examining the box and bush on either side of his house (you'll have to walk through the woods to get to them.) The only other thing to do here is visit the pub, so do so. Talk to all the pirates, then go upstairs, where Faris is. A quick peek in Faris's room reveals that the mighty pirate captain is actually a woman!! Anyway... after talking to everyone and taking everything, leave Tule, and Faris will rejoin you. Now, you can either head directly for the Wind Shrine, or return to the pirates' cave to check on Boco. If you don't feel like going to the cave, just go down to the Wind Shrine section, if you want to look for Boco, check the 'other stuff' section. %%%The Wind Shrine%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% Treasures: Potion x5, Tent, Leather (Helmet), BroadSwd, Staff Wneh you're ready, sail northeast to the Wind Shrine. Upon entering the shrine, head for the left room and talk to the people there. you'll learn that the king of Tycoon is on the top floor, where the crystal of wind is, but he hasn't come down yet, and there are monsters running all over the shrine. When you regain control of your characters, examine the pot at the bottom of the room and you'll be fully restored, and talk to the man standing to the left of the pot to get 5 potions, then leave this room and head right and enter the door. Here, pass by the lower door and take the tent from the treasure box. After getting the tent, go in the door and you'll be in a room with a glowing tile -- this is a save point, so save your game then continue down. Head right first this time to collect a Leather helmet, then take the left door to a winding room with two doors and a big eagle-type monster blocking another door. Before talking to the eagle, examine the rooms. The one on the right is empty, but the one on the left has a treasure box containing a Broad Sword. Get the sword (and equip it if you didn't buy enough at Tule), then talk to the eagle, it will jump forth and attack you...it isn't really an eagle, but rather the WingRaptor, an eagle-like dinosaur!! ===Defeating the WingRaptor=== Ok, this is your first boss...this is a Final Fantasy game... any ideas? Well, like the Mist Dragon in FF4, the Whelk in FF6, and the Guard Scorpion in FF7, this boss can only be attacked when it's not in it's defensive pose or not only will your attack fail, but you'll get hurt!! In this case, if WingRaptor's wings close, don't attack him. You should probably be strong enough to beat it before it even closes it's wings, though, if you're on at least level 3 and have a Broad Sword equipped on everyone. After beating this foul fowl (^_^), continue up through the door WingRaptor was blocking and you'll come out in a room with vines all over the walls. Before entering the center door, push against the wall in the lower right corner and follow the invisible path to claim a staff. Now go in the door and you'll be at the room with the Wind Crystal. It seems you're too late, the crystal has already shattered, and King Tycoon is nowhere to be found! The following scene shows the four crystals lending their powers to Butz and the group, then the king of Tycoon appears and explains the power of the crystals, and tells you to try and protect the other three, for if they all shatter, there's no telling what disasters may occur... After talking, the king vanishes and the shards of the crystal magically fly over to you, allowing you to use their powers, that is, they now allow you to access the job system, by giving you the powers to use the following jobs: Knight, Monk, Thief, Blue Mage, White Mage, and Black Mage. (If you've played FFT, these should be familiar to you.) Walk around to the back of the room and touch the swirly tile, this will warp you to the beginning of the shrine. Now is a good time to start using jobs!! I suggest turning Butz into a knight, Galuf into a monk, and the remaining two should alternate between thieves and the various mages. Leave the shrine and return to Tule. If you have either a white or black mage, be sure to buy them some magic here. Head for Zokk's house; he is now home, so go up and talk to him. Lenna will explain that they need the key to Torna Canal so they can pass through to Worus, in the east so that they can protect the crystal that lies therein. Unfortunatly, Zokk seems to have lost the key, but he insist that you stay at his house. In the middle of the night, Butz wakes up and walks outside and has a flashback about his late parents talking about the crystal. He then goes back inside and talks to Zokk, who then decides to give you the Canal Key. Leave town and board the ship again, there will be a short scene. If you have a Blue Mage, you might want to learn Aero from the Mold Wind enemies at the Wind Shrine, GoblinPunch from the Goblins on the world map, and BloodSuck from the Steel Bats inside the first cave. Anyway, whether or not you learn them, head for Torna Canal in the east. %%%Torna Canal/Ship Graveyard%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% Treasures (In Ship Graveyard): Flail, Tent, 990 GP, FenixDown x2, Potion, Antidote x2, Bronze (Shield), World Map (Special Item) When you arrive at the Canal, use the key to open the gate, then fight the monsters for a while to build up your new jobs. After you've had your fill, sail through the waterways until you come upon a whirlpool, which threatens to suck your ship in!! As you draw closer, you discover that the whirlpool isn't natural!! It was created by a giant scorpion monster called the Karlabos... ===Defeating Karlabos=== This is a pretty routine battle. If your monk has learned BuildUp, use it -- it will do over 200 damage!! Lightning and Fire magic also work well on it, so if you have a Black Mage (or someone with Black magic), use them. In general, Karlabos' attacks are pretty weak, but watch out for it's Tailscrew attack, which reduces one member's HP to the single digits. Karlabos has about 800 HP. After defeating that thing, it will pull Syldra into it's whirlpool, then vanishes!! The ship then begins to drift... After a few days, the ship stops at the graveyard of ships... To start, you can go back to Faris's bedroom in the ship to rest, do this if you get weak. You'll fight many undead enemies, but they are of little threat, and give you a LOT of exp. and GP, plus, the snail-like Carcursers drop Elixirs sometimes!! Leave the ship and head down, press against the rock a few times and more rocks will appear in a chain. Jump across the rocks to get a Flail; if you have a White Mage, equip it, then return and rest in Faris's ship again. Now go back to the wrecked ship and enter the door. Climb down the steps then go in the center door to get a tent. Now go down through the door on the right and climb down into the water on the left side and feel around for a staircase. Now, you'll be in the hold of the wrecked ship. First, climb down the stairs and examine the crate with the skull on it to get 990 GP, then go up until you see two doors. Take the upper one, then climb down the stairs and go under a wooden platform to get a FenixDown. Leave this room and take the lower door, then climb down the steps in front of you and go down the stairs in the corner of the room. In this next room, go right, then up to get a potion (yay), then go right and through the door. Keep going until you reach a room with a few beds. The group will split up and talk for a while...here, your suspicions are confirmed, Faris IS in fact, a woman! After drying off, the group will decide to rest. In the morning, go up into the room where Lenna went to change her clothes earlier, and keep going up the stairs until you reach the exit. Now cross the fallen mast, and instead of jumping on the rocks, head down across the series of half-submerged wooden platforms. Now jump on the wrecked ship on the right and enter the door. On the floor is the World Map, take it, it'll be useful later. Now, go downstairs, collect the two antidotes and the FenixDown from the treasures, then leave the ship. Now go right and jump on the rocks that lead to the next ship. Here, open the chest and the whole ship will rise up out of the water!! (That's some chest!! ^_^) Walk across the ship and jump across...yet MORE rocks at the end!! After the jump, you'll end up on a beach, where Butz's mother will appear and lure Butz into a trap. The same thing happens to Lenna and Faris when King Tycoon appears!! A little girl calling Galuf 'grandpa' then shows up, but since Galuf has lost his memory, he doesn't remember who the girl is, and thus, isn't affected by her hypnosis. At this point, a strange woman calling herself the Siren appears and attempts to steal the souls of Galuf's three unconcious friends!! Galuf then wakes up his friends by shouting at them, and the three illusionary family members dissappear. Dissapointed by Galuf's actions, Siren attacks you. ===Defeating the Siren=== Can you say EASY!? This is probably the easiest boss you've faced so far!! Siren is basically immune to magic, and she casts various spells on herself like Fast and Safe, but she'll also waste her turns casting of all things, LIBRA, on you!! Once again, have your monk use BuildUp. (You should use this against ALL bosses -- it's REALLY good!!) After a few rounds of fight, Siren will turn undead. Now she can be damaged greatly by fire and cure magic, so if you have anyone who can use these spells, by all means, DO IT!! Siren only has 900 HP, and when she goes down, you'll be rewarded with a Bronze shield. After the battle, walk up through the crack in the cliffs and you'll be back on the world map!! The VERY first thing you should do is...SAVE YOUR GAME!! If you're playing the emulator version, saving is no big deal, but playing the actual Super Famicom version, you haven't been able to save since before you entered Torna Canal!! Now, head southwest to the town of Carwen. %%%Carwen%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% Treasures: Ice (Rod), Antidote, 1000 GP When you arrive at Carwen, talk to everyone to learn that a Hiryuu dragon was seen on the north mountain recently. After you've spoken with everyone, buy some supplies and new equipment at the stores. You can find an antidote by searching the barrels in the lower section of town, an Ice rod can be found in a box behind the item shop also in the lower section of town, you'll have to go through a hidden passageway between two sets of boxes to be able to reach it. Finally, there is 1000 GP in a barrel in the pub. Walk through the wall below the two jars in the lower left corner of the room to find it. Oh, and speaking of the pub, you can also play the piano there, but I don't know what purpose this serves as of yet. After taking the items and talking to everyone, just leave town; there's nothing else here. %%%The North Mountain%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% Treasures: FenixDown, Soft, Whip, Power (Potion), Mithril (Helmet) Journey to the northeast through the woods until you come to the mountain; enter it then go straight up and into the opening in the cliff wall. There are two treasures in here one containing a Soft and the other containing a FenixDown. Take these items, then exit through the lit passageway on the left side of the room. You'll end up outside, on an upper part of the mountain. Continue up to the cave entrance, which is just a small tunnel leading to the other side of the mountain. Cross the bridge and go inside the next tunnel, but be careful of the purple flowers. As someone in Carwen said, these are poisonous, so if you step on one, your whole team will be poisoned. The only thing in this cave is a save point, so save your game, then take the south exit. Walk a little ways and Lenna will spot her father's headgear and rush over and take it. Right after picking it up, she will be shot by an arrow and poisoned, and the cliffs will start to crack. A strange hunter woman named Magisa will appear and taunt you for a while, then Faris will attempt to jump across the crack, only to have it widen on her, making her fall in!! However, Faris actually manages to climb back up the cliff, then throws a rope across the chasm so Butz and Galuf can join in. Magisa then attacks you. ===Defeating Magisa=== Lenna starts this battle poisoned, so cure her immediatly, then attack Magisa. Butz should attack and your monk should, as usual, use BuildUp to inflict some massive pain. The other two characters should heal the party with items and magic, as Magisa's Drain and Bolt spells really hurt!! After a few rounds of fight, Magisa will call her husband, Forza into the battle. Now things start to get interesting... Keep attacking Magisa, who will probably cast Regen on Forza -- don't worry, it only restores his HP by like four points!! Once she goes down, attack Forza. Like his wife, Forza has a powerful attack that really hurts you (Tackle), so be sure to keep healing. The same strategy that worked on every other boss will also work here (attack and BuildUp). After winning, you'll receive a Power potion and a Whip, and your team will be back together. Also, be sure to equip the headgear that Lenna found before the battle, it's a powerful Mithril helmet. Now climb up to the top of the mountain, where you'll find the injured Hiryuu dragon... Fortunatly, there is some Hiryuusou growing nearby, so Lenna goes over and picks it, even though it means crossing the poisonous purple flowers... Lenna uses the precious herb to cure the Hiryuu, then passes out. Thankful for what she did for him, the Hiryuu returns the favor and heals Lenna, then allows the team to fly on his back!! You now have control of the Hiryuu!! It can fly over land and water, but not mountains, so you can go back to anyplace you haven't been before, plus one new area: Tycoon Castle. If you want to explore Tycoon Castle, look down at the other stuff section, if you just want to continue the game, head south to Worus. %%%Worus Town/Worus Castle%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% Treasures: (In Town) Glasses (In Castle) FenixDown, Tent, 490 GP When you arrive in Worus, head for the town first. There's not that much here, but talk to everyone and be sure to upgrade your equipment. The magic shop here sells Jikuu and Call magics, but since you don't have a Time Mage or a Caller yet, don't bother buying any of these. The only noteworthy treasure here are the Glasses in the jar that's inside the lone house on the left side of town; take them, then leave for the nearby castle. Inside Worus Castle, head immediaty for the throne room. Lenna will warn King Worus about the crystal, and urges him to stop using the machine to amplify it's power in fear that might shatter like the Wind Crystal did. The king, of course, refuses... that is, until another meteorite falls from the sky and crashed east of Worus Tower!! The king and several soldiers rush off to the tower, leaving you in the castle. Explore more if you like, there isn't a whole lot here, but you can get a FenixDown, a Tent, and 490 GP from the storage room. There are also two side areas here: the basement, and the water tower. You're not strong enough to tackle either of these areas yet, so just ignore them. However, if you'd like, you can learn Frog Song from the Elf Toads in the water tower. Just defeat all but one Elf Toad and it will start to cast the spell on you. Besides this, there isn't much else to do here now, so just leave and head for Worus Tower, in the north. %%%Worus Tower%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. Other Stuff ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- %%%Boco%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% Treasures: Tent, Ether, 300 GP So you decided to go back to find Boco. Go back to the entrance to the cave where you left your chocobo earlier, however, Boco is nowhere to be found... Butz will notice Boco's footprints leading into the cave and decide to go after him. Make your way to the pirates' base at the end and enter the buildings, which aren't blocked anymore. In the one on the left, you'll find a blocked cave leading to three treasure chests. To get these, go back and flip the switch near the entrance to the base that didn't do anything when you were here before. The door in the room with the treasures will open, allowing you to get them, a Tent, an Ether, and 300 GP. In the house on the right, you'll find Boco, who is injured!! There's an old man caring for him, however, and he says the Boco will fully recover if he can just rest for a while. There's nothing else to do here, so just leave and head for the Wind Shrine. %%%Tycoon Castle%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% Treasures: HiPotion, FenixDown x2, Elixir x2, Cottage, Ether x2, MaidnKiss, Cure (Staff), Giyaman (Bell), Ashura (Katana), Shuriken You can do this anytime after getting the Hiryuu. Go back to the place where you first met Galuf and Lenna near the beginning of the game; the meteor crater south of Tycoon Castle. Now that you have a Hiryuu, you can fly over it and reach the castle. Once inside the castle, talk to the guard and he'll lower the gate. Now go into the castle courtyard and enter the big double door, you'll meet the chancellor inside. He talks to the group for a while, then tells you to rest for the night. You later see a scene where Lenna has suspicions that Faris may be her lost sister, Sarisa. In the morning, leave the bedroom and climb down the stairs. Search the jars to get a HiPotion, then exit the room and go right and climb up to the tower where an Elixir, a FenixDown, a Cottage, and an Ether can be found in the jars and barrels. Also, if you talk to the old woman there, she'll tell you a little bit about Princess Sarisa. Leave here and go in the center door in the main room. Don't bother going in either the left door, as it only leads to the bedrooms, which don't hold anything useful, or either of the lower doors in the center of the room, as they just lead out to a balcony. Instead, go in the right door and climb up the stairs. On the 4th floor, there are pots that contain a FenixDown, an Elixir, a MaidnKiss, and an Ether. Above the fifth floor is the Hiryuu tower, but it doesn't contain anything, so skip it and go back downstairs. Now leave the castle and go back to the courtyard. Head left and go to the tower. Inside, press the switch to open a passage in the wall, then follow the hidden path to a room with a bunch of treasures and the chancellor. Talk to the chancellor to get the weird Cure staff, then take the treasures to get the Ashura katana, the Giyaman bell, and a Shuriken. After getting all the items and talking to everyone, leave and head for Worus. After all, treasures and info are really all that are here. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4. Character Classes ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- A few words before I start. The job system in FFV is similar to that of FFT, but there are many differences also. Instead of gaining JP to buy abilities, you win ABP (Ability Points) after battles, and you need a certain amount to gain a job level. Every time you gain a job level, you learn a new skill. These are either Commands (which are listed by a "C" in the "type" section), or Support Abilities (listed as "S"). Commands are basic skills that can be selected in battle, and have a direct effect, such as the knight's "Protect" skill. Support abilities are indirect abilities that take effect automatically upon equipping them. Each job can have one special ability from another job, be it a command, or a support ability. The exception to this rule is the traveler, which is the base job. They have no special job command, so they can use two commands. Most of the support abilities are automatically transferred to the traveler, so these aren't necessary, and since they can equip anything, using "Equip Sword" would be kinda useless. %%%Traveler%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% Where obtained: Start with Special Skills: None Can Equip: All Action Ability None --Job Abilities-- None Evaluation: Actually, for a job with no abilities, the Traveler (or 'Suppin' as the game calls it) isn't really all that bad. Sure, it has no job skills, but unlike most other jobs, the traveler can use TWO commands instead of the usual one skill limit. Also, they can equip ANYTHING!! In short, later on in the game, after you've gotten all the abilities you need, you'll probably want to use this job! %%%Knight%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% Where obtained: Wind Shrine Special Skills: Guards near-death allies Can Equip: Swords, Daggers, Shields, Heavy Armor/Helmets Action Ability Protect - Protects selected ally from physical attacks --Job Abilities-- LVL Type Effect Cover 1 S Protects near-death allies Protect 2 C Protects selected ally from physical attacks BothHand 3 S Use weapon in both hands for more damage Evaluation: Knights are a pretty basic job. They can equip heavy weapons and armor, have lots of HP, and have a high defense. The ability to protect weak allies can be useful, but I can think of many better jobs than this one. Still, I suggest that you have Butz use this job...at least for the beginning of the game. %%%Thief%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% Where obtained: Wind Shrine Special Skills: Can run in towns/caves if you hold down the B button, can also see hidden passages. Can Equip: Daggers, Light Armor/Hats Action Ability Steal - Steals item from enemy --Job Abilities-- LVL Type Effect Haven't learned any yet. Evaluation: I... haven't really used a thief yet, so I don't know how good they are. They seem to have a very high speed, and can steal items from enemies, which will probably get some really good items later on. However, thieves have low HP and defense, meaning they usually get killed easily. My advice here is simply to master a thief, then use it's abilities on another job. %%%Monk%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% Where obtained: Wind Shrine Special Skills: Can counter attack Can Equip: Light Armor/Hats Action Ability Kick - Physical attack on all enemies --Job Abilities-- LVL Type Effect BuildUp 1 C Doubles Attack Power for the next hit Brawl 2 S Fight unarmed as well as a monk Chakra 3 C Restores users HP, Cures Poison and Darkness Evaluation: In the words of Fritz Fraundorf: "Monks rock!!" Not only do they have high HP, high attack power, AND high defense, they attack TWICE!! That's not much on it's own, but they DO MORE DAMAGE THAN KNIGHTS!!! BuildUp is also a GREAT attack to use against bosses, as it usually does over 500 damage!! Be SURE to use monks!!! %%%Blue Mage%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% Where obtained: Wind Shrine Special Skills: Can use all Blue Magic, learns Blue Magic when hit with it. Can Equip: Swords, Daggers, Rods, Shields, Light-to-Moderate Armor/Helmets Action Ability Blue - Uses any learned Blue Magics --Job Abilities-- LVL Type Effect Peep 1 C See enemy's HP and weak point Learning 2 S Able to learn Blue Magic even if not a Blue Mage Blue 3 C Use all Blue Magic Evaluation: Remember Strago in FF6 and Enemy Skill Materia in FF7? These guys work the same way. There are a number of spells and attacks that are used by the enemies. If hit by one of these such spells, they will learn it after battle, and be able to use it at any time. Besides being good magic users, Blue Mages also have a fairly high defense and can equip swords. A good, not great, job. %%%White Mage (Priest)%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% Where obtained: Wind Shrine Special Skills: Can use all White Magic Can Equip: Staves, Light Robes/Hats Action Ability White - Uses any learned White Magic --Job Abilities-- LVL Type Effect White 1 C Use Level 1 White Magic even if not a White Mage White 2 C Use Level 2 White Magic even if not a White Mage White 3 C Use Level 3 White Magic even if not a White Mage Evaluation: Your typical Final Fantasy White Mage. They use healing spells, which makes them very valuable, but their defense and attack power is lacking... It's even lower than a wizards!! I suggest gaining this job up one or two levels, then changing it. %%%Black Mage (Wizard)%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% Where obtained: Wind Shrine Special Skills: Can use all Black Magic Can Equip: Rods, Daggers, Light Robes/Hats Action Ability Black - Can use any learned Black Magic --Job Abilities-- LVL Type Effect Black 1 C Use Level 1 Black Magic even if not a Black Mage Black 2 C Use Level 2 Black Magic even if not a Black Mage Evaluation: This job is just what you'd expect, the typical bodyless Final Fantasy black mage you've come to know and love. Black Mages can use Black Magic (WHOA!!) that consists of various attack spells (WHOA AGAIN!!) Ok, enough with the sarcasm. Black mages are basically what they are in every other FF game: Strong magic usersm but have low defense and a weak attack. Still, I suggest using one of these for a while. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5. Weapons and Armor ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Note: If your character is in the normal class that they start with, they can equip anything. Also, if you have nothing equipped for a weapon, you will punch the enemy twice.
