############################## ## Kingpin Demo Walkthrough ## ############################## I.AM/KINGPIN http://www.pcgame.com/randy/kingpin/ ############ General Info ############ NPC's (Non-Player Characters, the people you meet in the game that aren't you) react to you according to your attitude and the weapon you're holding (if any). Keep this in mind as you play. If you walk around with a weapon out, be prepared to use it. In many situations, it's a good idea to keep your weapon holstered until you know you need it. Some of the NPC's will offer to join you for $10-25 if you talk to them positively. Save your money until you need one to help you in a fight. You don't need to press a key to use a key; if you have the correct one it will just work and you can open the door. You can make hired guys heal themselves by pressing 'key3' (set to the 'x' key by default) and letting them sit a while. You start with a lead pipe, but the crowbar you can get soon into the game is much better -- get it and use it instead of the pipe. ############### Level 1 - "SR1" ############### 1. Use your pipe to smash the boards in the fence behind you (or jump to the open dumpster lid and then over the fence),then walk down the stars and get the pistol ammo. 2. Walk down the alley and talk to the homeless guy (POSITIVE); he'll offer to sell you a crowbar for one dollar. It's a good deal (the crowbar is better than the lead pipe), but you'll need some cash first (you start with $0). Keep walking until you find the man and his, um, lady firend. They'll both respond pretty negatively no matter how you talk to them, so kill them and take their money (crouch + use over the corpse) and go buy a crowbar. (If you're really hardcore you can kill the bum and take your dollar back :) 3. At the fork in the alley go right first (left is the warehouse and the guards, right is the punks by the sewer entrance). Wait until the guard are distracted by the radio (when it is loudest) and run for the door on the far right ("Warehouse B"). If you were spotted, run and hide -- the guards will come looking with flashlights. 4. Once you are sure it's clear, walk through the overhead door, climb the ladder the the platform, and find the cash hidden behind a crate. 5. Walk through the next overhead door, climb up the stairs (get the health on the shelves on the left if you need it), and kill the safe guard. (You can't open the safe yet -- you'll need KEY3 for that). Get the key (it's KEY1, and it opens the door to "Warehouse A", near where you ran past the guards), the flashlight (on the cabinet), and the guard's money (crouch + use). 6. Open overhead door to Warehouse A and go inside. Downstairs is the storeroom -- don't go there yet. Walk into the warehouse (with all the boxes around), and kill the guard there and take his cash. 7. Stand facing the table and locate the vent duct on the upper-right wal by the tower of cratesl. Look for a small crate with a distinct shadow and drag it (hold 'use') a few feet over by the tower of crates near the tower of crates near the vent (that's one tower away :). Use the small crate to jump to the tower of crates and work your way over to the vent. 8. Smash the vent with the pipe or crowbar and crawl inside. 9. When you jump down exiting the vent, you'll land on shelf holing the the cylindrical coil thing -- get it (you can trade it for a gun at the Pawn-O-Matic). Jump down, and dont miss the ammo on the shelf under you. 10. Climb the stairs and exit the warehouse, running by the guards as needed. Go back to the first fork in the alley you came across and go left this time to the Pawn-O-Matic. Go inside and trade the coil for the pistol. 11. Leave the Pawn-O-Matic and hire the guy outside for $10. Now with your gun and your thug you can go take on the guards you ran past before. After you do, don't forget to get the key (it's KEY3) and use it to open the safe (remember where it is?). Now you go back and can buy some goodies from the Pawn-O-Matic (you should be able to afford all of the pistol mods [$110] if you've been searching bodies for cash). 12. Now take your thug (if he's still alive) and go wax the punks by the sewer. One of them is holding KEY2 -- get it and his cash, then go down stairs into the sewer. ################# Level 2 - "SEWER" ################# 1. Entering the sewer notice the signs on the walls -- a blue sing, and signs with the numbers '1' and '2' on them. The exit on the other side (where you want to go after one stop) has no blue sign, and has the numbers '3' and '4 on the walls. Go right (by sign '1') killing thugs and looking for the door on the right wall. 2. Enter the door (kill some more), climb the stairs, and get the ammo and the shotgun (on top of the shelf). 3. Exit the sewer (go out by the signs marked "Street Access", "SR14", "3", and "4". ############### Level 3 - "SR2" ############### 1. Go right first (down the hall with the rubble) to find Lamont, his dog, and the bar. GO inside the bar (pay your $10), into the mensroom, and talk to the guy there. He'll offer you something for getting his Zolex watch back from Lamont, with whom he has been having a domestic altercation. 2. Spend $50 and hire the two thugs at the bar on your way out of the bar, and get them to help you kill Lamont (and, by necessity, Lamont's woman and his little dog too). Take the watch and whatever cash they have (had) and head back into the bar. 3. That weird guy will still be in the bathroom -- he'll trade you the Zolex for the "store room key' (KEY4) and might even drop a hint about a wallsafe somewhere if you hang out (but don't hang too long -- he'll get nervous:). KEY4 opens the "Maintenance Room" (according to the sign on it), which is where you need to go next. 4. Walk back to the fork in the hall from step #1 where you went right to the rubble hall, and go straight instead. Climb the stairs, talk to the nice lady for no good reason, then enter the door marked "Roof Access". (You can't get in any of the doors marked "Security" inside, as far as I know). 5. Climb up the stairs to the roof, walk across the plank, but wait before going in the door on the other side. Drag the box there over by the air conditioner. Get on the box, jump to the AC, then to the roof and pick up the ammo and health. Then go in the door. 6. To get to the maintenance room: walk along until you find the room with the broken fence in it. Crawl under the break in the fence (or open the door in it) and go through the door on the other side. Walk to the end of the hall and turn right. The maintenance room is the last door on the left. 7. Go in the maintenance room and use your crowbar to smash open the vent. Climb in and crawl along, being prepared for a fight. Around the corner you'll have a firefight with a room full of thugs. Just strafe left, shoot, and strafe back right repeatedy to take them out. 8. Once you wax the thugs, smash open the vent cover (if it's still there) and enter the room. Get the gun from the table, and then climb up on the long desk thing and open ('use') the picture on the wall. When it opens, get KEY5 out (which opens the EXIT). 9. Head toward the exit as follows: leave the room by the door (not the vent), go through the door on the right, walk to the end of the hall, turn right, take the first left, walk to the end of the hall, and the EXIT is the last boarded-up door on the right (smash it open with the crowbar). 10. Before exiting, you may want to check some of the rooms in the area to pick up ammo and health as needed. ############### Level 4 - "SR3" ############### 1. Walk through the doors and jump down the broken stairs (it's easy). At the bottom there is a light-colored door and a dark-colored door. Go through the dark door (the other one is locked anyway -- you need KEY7 to open it). 2. Kill the guys behind the door and walk across the rubble to the door on the left wall; enter it. Take the first right, up two flights of stairs (killing as needed). 3. Shoot out the window (and into the other window) to kill the two guys in the room outside before climbing out the window and walking along the ledge to where they are. Grab their cash, KEY6, and the flamethrower butane on the shelf and then climb down the stairs. 4. Take a detour up the stairs to the right, kill the dog and open the crates (with the crowbar) to get the flamethower butane (you'll be glad you did later :) 5. Open the door and go right. Go left (there's a little ammo to the right if you need it, but nothing else). Walk into the open area by the train and open the door to the right. 6. Kill everyone :), go into the old shack and get KEY7 and the ammo. Leave the shack. 7. Besides the way you came in, there are two exits to this area: a door (that leads back to the light-colored locked door from step #1) and a stairwell down. Take the stairs. 8. Open the door and kill the dogs inside, then get the battery from the back of the abandoned car. Now for the fun: shoot the car's roof, then shoot it's floorboard. Use the crowbar (don't shoot!) to open the crate under the car and get ready for some barebecued fun. 9. Now make your way back to the street by the bar (remember where that is? No? Try: through door, end of hall, up stairs, through door on left by old shack, through door, left, through other door, back to beginning of map, and to previous map. Then end of hall, right, around corner, left through door, along hall until you find the rubble area again and outside. Take the steps up to the door across from the bar and go inside). 10. Climb the steps to the door across the street from the bar and go inside.
